Product Description
SDC2 (Syndecan-2) is a gene encoding a transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan that plays an important role in cell adhesion, migration, and proliferation. Recent studies have shown that aberrant methylation of the SDC2 gene is closely associated with the development and progression of colorectal cancer (CRC). The SDC2 gene promoter region is typically hypomethylated in normal tissues, but in the early stages of CRC, it often becomes hypermethylated, leading to gene silencing and loss of function.
Based on this mechanism, SDC2 methylation has become an important biomarker for noninvasive early screening of CRC. Measuring SDC2 methylation levels in stool or blood allows for noninvasive cancer risk assessment.
