Product Description

In colorectal cancer (CRC), methylation of the SDC2 (Syndecan-2) and TFPI2 (Tissue Factor Pathway Inhibitor 2) genes is a common early molecular event.


Under normal circumstances, the promoter regions of these two genes are unmethylated, allowing normal gene expression. The SDC2 protein is involved in processes such as cell proliferation and adhesion, while TFPI2 is a tumor suppressor gene whose protein product inhibits tumor invasion and metastasis. Hypermethylation of the promoter regions of these genes leads to transcriptional silencing, abolishing their normal tumor suppressor function1, thereby promoting the development and progression of colorectal cancer. Therefore, monitoring the methylation status of these genes can effectively detect early signals of colorectal cancer and its precancerous lesions, such as adenomas.
